How Does a Young Man Cleanse His Way?

Can we stop sinning? Just because we are under grace does not mean we're not capable of sinning. Can we sin all we want and not worry? Should we try and walk holy? What would be the outcome? Here is the point. We're Christians (if the Lord Jesus has truly saved you by His grace) and are saved and sanctified in Him. We're bought with a price and are not our own. Our soul is saved and secure in God through the Lord Jesus. However, we will struggle with the flesh now and then which can be frustrating. We are to pattern our life after Christ, and exert all our strength to walking in His ways and will.

Below are seven practical steps to help us in our daily walk with God to avoid the pitfalls of temptations in this life.

Step #1 – Read God's word all the time.

"This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success." (Joshua 1:8)

"And it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life: that he may learn to fear the LORD his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them:" (Deuteronomy 17:19)

"Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed [thereto] according to thy word." (Psalm 119:9)

"Till I come, give attendance to reading, to exhortation, to doctrine." (1 Timothy 4:13)

Step #2 – Pray all the time.

"Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints." (Ephesians 6:18)

"But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost." (Jude 1:20)

"Watch and pray, that ye enter not into temptation: the spirit indeed [is] willing, but the flesh [is] weak." (Matthew 26:41)

Step #3 – Don't allow any wicked, perverse, sinful, or unholy thing in your life and mind.

"For I [am] the LORD that bringeth you up out of the land of Egypt, to be your God: ye shall therefore be holy, for I [am] holy." (Leviticus 11:45)

"Because it is written, Be ye holy; for I am holy." (1 Peter 1:16)

"Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there be] any praise, think on these things." (Philippians 4:8)

Step #4 – If impure thoughts arise stop pray for strength and for God to remove them.

"I acknowledged my sin unto thee, and mine iniquity have I not hid. I said, I will confess my transgressions unto the LORD; and thou forgavest the iniquity of my sin." (Psalms 32:5)

"If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us [our] sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." (1 John 1:9)

"Blessed [is he whose] transgression [is] forgiven, [whose] sin [is] covered." (Psalms 32:1)

Step #5 – keep short accounts with God.

Same as above verses.

Step #6 – always look to our Lord to work in your life.

"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." (John 14:18)

"And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me." (2 Corinthians 12:9)

"But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle [you]." (1 Peter 5:10)

"I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me." (Philippians 4:13)

Step #7 – Always be ready in the mind that our Lord could come and take us from the earth.

"Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown." (Revelation 3:11)

"Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed [is] he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame." (Revelation 16:15)

"And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward [is] with me, to give every man according as his work shall be." (Revelation 22:12)

There are many, many more verses all throughout the Bible that supports the above steps. If you will put these into practice, and follow them, your walk with our Lord will be more fruitful and pleasing to Him.
